Dearly Beloved of our Lord:

PSU ~ The Daily Vanguard Publishes The Gospel

We have had the privilege of bringing the gospel message of the Kingdom to Portland State University in downtown Portland for over thirty-five years.  We have worked with many different campus ministries and several campus preachers and Martin Kennedy is one of the most dedicated and committed.  He has been with us for over fifteen years.  We were together on the campus on a beautiful winter day near the end of February and had the privilege of preaching open-air to hundreds of students.  The campus paper (www.dailyvanguard.com) published The Gospel on the front page at the very end of the month 2/29/08 using a photo of Marty carrying his signboard.

You can access the Daily Vanguard article at their website.

There are several inaccuracies, including the misspelling of our name, in the article so we have posted an edited version with corrections on our website.  We also edited the article for brevity.  You can view our March Newsletter on our website at:

Follow-up to the February Street Story

You may remember our February email Street Story where we shared about a man we met at Office Depot along MLK Blvd.  The man needed some money because he had messed his pants and wanted to be able to go to a shelter and clean up.  We have had the opportunity to share this story elsewhere and we have received many emails with comments since we first sent it out.  Here is one reply from a woman whose son is on the streets caught in alcoholism.

“Hello and God bless you today.  This story touched me.  Bless you. My son has been in a care center since December but because of his drinking he has to leave.  They were giving him an antidepressant and he was drinking and he started acting out.  Now that they took him off the antidepressant he is much better but the damage is done.  He messed his pants many times on the street.  Such a hard place to be where you can't get your basic needs met.  I pray God will open a door for a great outreach in the homeless community and Lord Use me.

“I miss you and would appreciate your prayers.  I am overcoming by the blood of the Lamb.  I know God has a job for me and healing for my husband and a life for my son.  He Is Lord.”

We are never quite sure what is happening when we “stop for the one” and find the grace to “love the one in front of us.”  We might be stopping for the son or daughter of a friend or a neighbor.  Everyone is important to our Lord.  May the awakening in the Pacific NW be one of compassion, with the fruit of the Holy Spirit, and in the power of the cross.

Thank you for your prayers, your encouragement, and your support.
